Workshop Description

Tell Me a Story! will create a community of storytellers and story absorbers. Each Friend will create an array of stories and share at least three stories. Stories can be poetry, prose, sung, rapped, and accompanied by music, movement and drawings. We will respectfully explore the stories and their meanings.

The workshop will create a community of storytellers and story absorbers. During the workshop, each participant will create an array of stories and will tell at least three stories. Participants will be asked to create:

• A one-page autobiography
• A story drawing on family lore
• A story drawing on where you have come from
• A story for children
• A story for future generations

During each session:
• for about 50% of the session, Friends will create stories and share or hear stories
• for about 10% of the session, Friends will deepen and center through worship
• for about 30% of the session, Friends will respectfully explore their stories and their meanings
• for about 10% of the session, facilitators will offer their wisdom and tips on creating stories and emphasize the importance of the ancient art of storytelling.

This will be a time of nourishing community, by practicing our talents of crafting our stories of family, history, identity and collectively reclaiming the transformative task of making meaning in our lives. Musical selections may be offered in lieu of storytelling.

Friends are welcome to bring journals, art supplies and musical instruments to create their stories. Paper and pencils will be available for Friends who have not brought anything. The co-leaders will have a computer available for Friends to access online images or audio for their storytelling.
