Workshop Description

Using the framing of our abolitionist past, Daquanna will have us consider “How Will Quakers Change the World – Again?” Moving from history to reparations to tangible acts of empathy using our heart center, we will look to our past to galvanize us to create the future we all deserve.

How Will Quakers Change the World – Again?

Answer: By evolving from the Abolitionists and Conscious Objectors we were in the past to the Anti-Racism and Inclusionary Heart-led Advocates that we need to be today and into the future! As Quakers we have the power to change the world for the better our history shows us this: now is the time for us to galvanize and refortify ourselves to be the change that the world needs to see. We must step off of the alter of abolitionism from which we still seek praise and reestablish the Society of Friends as the moral leader for justice, humanity, and peace. We will move from the historical to the tangible, all while engaging our heart center to ensure we can tap into the spectrum of feelings needed to withstand the internal and external pressures to stick to the status quo of centering white-, male-, hetero-norms and so many other harmful ‘norms’. Come ready to discuss, worship, and experiment all while using:

  • History to ground and encourage us
  • Examples of meetings paying reparations to destroy the boxes we put ourselves in
  • Tangible actions to bring our meetings along, and
  • Our heart center to uncover empathy and feelings needed to manifest this work

Leader Experience

Daquanna is the owner of Elevation Educational Consulting Group, which trains educators, communicators, and other professionals throughout the country. She facilitates 3 workshops per month, over 500 people each year, and keynotes annually an average of 6 times. I am a master facilitator and I teach others how to engage, deescalate, incorporate adult learning principles, and consider multiple processing times within audiences to ensure deep and meaningful learning. Most recently within Quaker spaces I have presented at Baltimore Yearly Meeting Annual Session and at multiple monthly meetings with great success.
