Summer 2025 Litigation Update

Many of you have asked, or are wondering, what is happening with the court case that Friends General Conference is involved in, Mennonite Church USA et al v. DHS. Today, we share an update.
The court has set a briefing schedule. A briefing schedule is a timeline that the court establishes for each side to submit written arguments. The appellants (parties making the claims) go first, and then the appellees (parties defending themselves) submit a response. FGC has joined Mennonite Church USA and other faith communities as appellants.
The appellants’ briefing is due on September 8, 2025. This is the responsibility of the lawyers representing the coalition. Please keep this team in prayer as they complete the work associated with this task.
The government will then file the appellees’ briefing by October 8, 2025. The appellants’ reply is due by October 29, 2025.
Court moves slowly. There may not be much to share with you prior to the filing of these briefings. We all wait patiently for updates with the utmost respect for the legal system and profound faith in the attorneys working on our behalf. We ask that all Friends reading this message remain steadfastly focused on God’s calling for us to love our neighbors. Radically, this is the way of enduring peace and justice.
