New Quaker Checklist #41

FGC recommends the following tip for newcomers to the Quaker faith: Read Quaker children’s books–they are not just for kids.

Picture books, novels, and nonfiction books invite children and young people to view the world through a new perspective. At home, school, or in Quaker religious education, books are a starting point for sparking conversation with children on values, relationships, and tough topics. And guess what? Adults like picture books, too!

Sparkling Still is a ready-to-go Quaker curriculum that uses picture books as the center of lessons on topics such as sense of self, family and community, the natural world, the Bible and Quakerism, empowerment, and Quaker testimonies, as well as guidance on hard issues like grief, divorce, extreme weather, violence, and more.

Here are some suggestions for using picture books to enhance your child’s (or your) spiritual journey.
