The Oscar-winning film Friendly Persuasion (1956), starring Gary Cooper, Dorothy McGuire, and Anthony Perkins, tells the story of a family of Quakers in Indiana in 1862. As Quakers, they strongly oppose violence and war and their faith is tested during the American Civil War. Should they fight, despite their pacifist beliefs?
