FGC is Hiring Quaker Outreach & Engagement Representatives — Scouting America National Jamboree
Job Title: Quaker Outreach & Engagement Representatives — Scouting America National Jamboree
Compensation: $2,000 total (team stipend) + travel and lodging
Positions Available: 2
Duration: Event-based assignment, July 21-30, 2026
Location: On-site at BSA National Jamboree: Summit Bechtel Reserve, Glen Jean, West Virginia
Overview
Friends Committee on Scouting (Quakers) seeks two individuals to serve as representatives of the Quaker faith at the Scouting America National Jamboree. The selected team will host and manage an information and activity table that introduces Jamboree participants to Quaker history, values, and community life. These positions are hands-on, interactive, and rooted in hospitality—ideal for people who feel led to outreach, faith sharing, and youth engagement.
The two representatives will serve as partners, collaboratively developing short educational experiences and creative, craft-based activities that express core Quaker testimonies such as simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship.
This endeavor is an outreach project of Friends General Conference (FGC).
Responsibilities
Together as a team, representatives will:
- Staff a Quaker-themed table throughout scheduled booth hours at the Jamboree.
- Conceive, plan, and implement brief educational, hands-on activities that reflect Quaker values (e.g., peace button-making, reflection journals, silent worship moments, service-oriented crafts).
- Engage youth and adults with warmth, approachability, and curiosity, welcoming questions about Quaker beliefs and practices.
- Provide accurate and accessible information about Quaker traditions, meetings for worship, and opportunities for youth involvement.
- Maintain a table display that is visually inviting, organized, and inclusive of printed materials, interactive elements, and take-home items.
- Record basic engagement data—number of visitors, popular activities, common questions, etc.—for reporting purposes.
- Collaborate effectively, sharing responsibilities, ideas, and decision-making in a spirit of unity.
- Provide a final report to Friends General Conference and Friends Committee on Scouting within two weeks of the close of Jamboree.
Qualifications
- Knowledgeable about Quaker beliefs, testimonies, worship, and culture (membership not required, but familiarity is). This includes both programmed and unprogrammed worship.
- Comfortable speaking about faith with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Experience with youth engagement, facilitation, crafts, education, or religious outreach preferred.
- Creative and resourceful—able to design meaningful activities using simple materials.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to stand, sit, and interact with the public for extended periods.
- Able to work closely with a partner and make decisions cooperatively.
Compensation
- $2,000 total stipend shared by the two representatives.
- Payment schedule and division of stipend may be arranged with both team members prior to the event.
- Travel and housing included. Meals/per diem rate to be negotiated closer to event date.
How to Apply
Applicants may apply individually or as an existing team. Please submit:
- Individual resumes for each team member
- One joint statement of interest
- One example of a possible activity you might offer at the table
It would be helpful to know whether you have prior Scouting experience in some way, whether that appears in resumes or in statements of interest. The statement of interest does not need to be long or complicated–just address why this opportunity appeals to you/your team, and what sort of qualifications and experiences you have to support your interest.
The Friends reviewing the credentials have found that writing generated by artificial intelligence has a cadence and rhythm that de-personalizes the writing. We would rather review imperfect writing that introduces us to a real person with real experiences.
Please apply only through the Google Form here.
This position will close on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 5:00pm Eastern.
