Invitational outreach is one way Friends General Conference (FGC) helps the Religious Society of Friends grow. When we say invitational outreach, we mean clear, open invitations to people who are not yet Quaker to come and experience Quaker worship and community. We want seekers to know who we are, where we are, what we believe, and how they can join us.

Through events, our website, and social media, we share that Quaker faith is alive, welcoming, and open to all who are seeking a deeper spiritual life.

Why Invitational Outreach Matters

Many people today are searching for a spiritual home. Quakers have a special way of worship that centers on silence, listening, and the Inner Light. Invitational outreach helps us:

  • Welcome new people into this way of worship
  • Share our stories and our faith
  • Help meetings grow in numbers and spiritual depth

Invitational outreach always includes:

  • A clear invitation to attend a Quaker event or meeting for worship
  • Simple, honest information about what to expect
  • Easy next steps for staying connected and learning more

How FGC Practices Invitational Outreach

FGC supports invitational outreach in several ways:

In-Person Outreach Events

  • We plan and support major in-person outreach events.
  • These events may take place at large gatherings, conferences, or in local communities.
  • Anyone in the FGC community can suggest ideas, and the Outreach & Visibility Committee helps guide and approve them.

Online Outreach Events

  • We host online programs that introduce people to Quaker faith and practice.
  • These events make it easy for people across North America to connect with Friends.
  • Our first Outreach Conference will be held online in Fall 2026!

Website and Online Resources

  • We work to keep FGC’s website clear, welcoming, and easy to use.
  • We offer resources that explain Quaker worship, beliefs, and community life.
  • Volunteers may help review and edit website content.

Social Media

  • We use social media to share news, events, reflections, and stories from the FGC community.
  • Volunteers help us post, respond, and keep our online spaces kind and respectful.

Caring for Staff and Volunteers

  • Outreach and communications work can be demanding.
  • A small group of volunteers helps watch over the well-being of staff and key volunteers.
  • They help make sure people doing this work are treated with respect and care.

The Outreach & Visibility Committee

The Outreach & Visibility Committee guides and supports all of this work. The committee:

  • Helps keep invitational outreach a clear priority for FGC
  • Reviews big outreach ideas and helps turn them into real events and programs
  • Supports staff who work in outreach and communications
  • Helps shape FGC’s presence on the internet and on social media

The committee is made up of volunteers who:

  • Care deeply about welcoming new people into Quaker life
  • May have experience in events, membership growth, communications, technology, or writing
  • Value diversity in age, race, background, and gifts

A clerk or co-clerks lead the committee and share its work with FGC’s governance.
