Gathering 1954: A Glimpse at the Past

Friends General Conference is grateful to have received these photos from our Friend Mayland Darlington Crosson, who attended the 1954 Gathering of Friends in Cape May, New Jersey. She writes:

These photos were taken by several people, all at the Seacrest House (High School and Young Adult House) in Cape May, New Jersey, July 1954, while attending [the] Friends General Conference [Gathering]. My sponsor was Miss Laura Broomall of West Chester, Pennsylvania. She was a member of our Middletown Preparative Meeting (under the care of Providence Monthly Meeting.

I was 15 years old and our family had just moved back…we (four girls) hod not experienced silent meeting while in Denver for the last eight years, so Miss Laura thought this would be a way to meet other young friends.

Mayland D. Crosson

Gathering provides an opportunity for Friends of all ages to deepen their spirituality, make new friends, and create memories that last for decades.

We are so grateful to see this snapshot of the Gathering experience many years later!
