Becoming Beloved Community: A Message of Equality and Nonviolence After Charleston

In response to the violence that took place in Charleston, SC, a letter of solidarity was sent to the leadership of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. The letter was suggested and drafted by members of the Christian Interfaith Relations Committee (CIRC) of Friends General Conference. Members of CIRC act as our ambassadors in the interfaith community both nationally and internationally. The letter is signed by myself and Presiding Clerk Frank Barch because it is customary in interfaith circles that those charged with leadership of a membership organization are the signatories to official communications.

We are grateful to CIRC for bringing forward this opportunity to express our solidarity with members of the AME Church and our hope that, together, we can help bring about the beloved community.
