Vital Friends: September 2013 eNewsletter

View the September 2013 eNewsletter or download as a PDF.  The following is the introductory text.

Dear Friends,

As we rest and unpack from a very successful Gathering in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains, FGC has been reflecting further on this year’s theme, At The Growing Edges of our Faith.  This year’s Gathering explored ambitious questions about growth and reconciliation in the Light.

Quakerism itself is growing and changing, and the new Quaker Voluntary Service is a living testimony to Friends’ desire to be the change we wish to see in the world.  Living in community, these young Friends are serving the wider community in their placements at social justice organizations.  FGC welcomes our first Quaker Voluntary Service Volunteer, who will work on racial justice issues in the Quaker world.

FGC continued its tradition of sponsoring a group of Quakers at this year’s White Privilege Conference, a challenging and transformative event. Three Friends write about their reflections.

New from QuakerBridge Media, a book about the French and Indian war aimed at middle school readers.  The Snake Fence explores how Quakers in the past have faced the tough issues of violence and prejudice.

Thanks for reading, thanks for participating, and happy Fall!
