Vital Friends, September 2017: Change

Dear Friend,

“The only thing that is constant is change,” said Heraclitus. People in southeastern Texas can testify to that as they deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. How to help is a source of concern for many Friends. We’ve created a page on our website featuring updates from Friends who have been impacted by the hurricane or are on the ground supporting relief efforts. View it here. We will continue to share updates from Friends as they are shared with us.

Though nowhere as drastic as those caused by Harvey, changes are coming to FGC, too. In this issue, you’ll learn about updates regarding QuakerBooks and the Friends Meeting House Fund. Changes in the form of request improvements are coming to the Quaker Cloud, as well. So if your Quaker meeting or church has been holding off on giving the Quaker Cloud a try, don’t delay! Our free trial for new users comes to an end on September 30th.

Personal change is also an opportunity. That’s why we’re offering an invitation to the next Spiritual Deepening eRetreat, a recording of Pamela Boyce Simms‘ inspirational plenary presentation from the annual FGC Gathering, and an interview with Peter Blood and Annie Patterson, whose Rise Up Singing and Rise Again Songbook help bring hope in dark times to many Quaker circles.

In the Spirit,
The Staff of FGC

BookMusings, September 2017: Arts & Culture

Dear Friend,

Turning leaves, crisp apples, and settling into September’s autumn prelude have the bookstore focusing on the creative energy of arts and culture, and we’ve designed this issue to share some of the more artistic items we offer. Featured is a review of Discovering Humor in the Bible, as well as a reading list filled with books of art, poetry and prayer. We think you’ll enjoy Paulette Meier’s CD, Timeless Quaker Wisdom in Plainsong, as well as an interview with celebrated artists Peter Blood and Annie Patterson. Hunker down with our September Quaker classic, The Quaker Reader by Jessamyn West, which includes a Quaker chronology among its 500+ pages.

At Gathering, Quaker conferences, and more, we continue to hear how much the store means to you. Our deep thanks for your Light-filled support and well wishes.

Kindly,
Samantha Wilson
Manager, QuakerBooks & More
