Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia (Arch Street Quakers)
Invitation to Worship
"Be still and know that I am God"
We welcome you to our meeting for worship. We gather in worshipful silence, intending to open ourselves wholly to the Divine Spirit, which we believe is within and beyond each person. Our worship has no human leader and no planned program. Sometimes no words are spoken; sometimes a person is led to minister vocally. Each person present contributes to the depth of worship we reach as a group. The meeting is ended, usually after about an hour, by the shaking of hands initiated by persons appointed to do so, from our Worship and Ministry committee.
Information for Visitors
Visitors are invited to join us for refreshments and conversation following the rise of meeting for worship. Please sign the visitors' book, and sign up on the clipboard if you'd like to be subscribed to our e-list. Welcoming committee members are available to answer questions about Quakerism, and to give a brief tour of the historic meetinghouse. On Third First Days we have a potluck lunch, to which all are invited, before our meeting for business (September to June only).
If you come to worship mid-week, the format is different. We worship for about 45 minutes, and there are no refreshments served. However, the greeter will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
PLEASE NOTE: Despite the Meeting House's limited access, our Wednesday and Sunday worship times remain in effect year round! In case of a weather emergency announced by the city, meeting for worship will be canceled.
The historic building and grounds are owned by the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting ( PYM). If you would like to reserve space for a tour or a wedding, this is not the place; please visit this website: www.historicasmh.org
MMFP and Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting (CPMM) are in a care relationship with Friends Select School, and each monthly meeting is responsible for appointing members to the board of trustees. The only Center City pre-K to 12th grade school, Friends Select is located at 17th St. and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Many past and current MMFP members and/or their children have attended Friends Select.

WHO CAN APPLY?

VISITORS, ATTENDERS, AND MEMBERS
During a Meeting for Worship, the people present usually include a mix of visitors, attenders, and members.

Several times over the last few months, meeting members and attenders cooked dinner at Old First Reformed UCC"s social hall. Since 1984, the church sponsors a men's shelter during the winter months. For several years, a group of MMFP volunteers have taken on the responsibility of shopping and cooking for a dinner for the men's evening meal. More dates are on the "events" tab.
Thanks to Ed and Katie for organizing this worthwhile activity, and to all those who have shown up to cook and spend time at the shelter!
