New Quaker Checklist #32

FGC recommends the following tip for newcomers to the Quaker faith: Talk with your children about your faith journey through Faith & Play Stories and the Quaker Religious Education Collaborative.

Children often lead rich spiritual lives and are curious about faith, prayer, caring for each other and the world, and connecting with That Which is Eternal.  Adults offer children a powerful gift when we invite them to explore their spirituality in an open and creative environment.

Quaker Faith & Play™ is a set of stories for Friends to use as a vehicle for learning about Quaker faith and practice, and to explore our identity as Friends. Deep respect for children and their spiritual lives is at the heart of Faith & Play. Each story session might be called a “meeting for worship with attention to story” and attends to the Spirit’s ongoing activity in children’s lives.

The Quaker Religious Education Collaborative (QREC) is a grassroots network of Friends holding a sense of stewardship for life-long Quaker faith formation through religious education. In addition to a resource library of lessons and activities for Quaker religious educators, the QREC Faith at Home initiative supports parents by offering an approach to children’s faith formation, rooted in Spirit, that helps children look at life through a Quaker lens and see the same landscape in new ways. Quaker faith formation can actually return energy to us by focusing our lives on what matters most and freeing us to let go of less important concerns.
