The Revolution Begins With Food: Reflections of an Organic Elder
Wednesday October 18, 7:00-9:00 PM
Friends Center, Rufus Jones Room 1501 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19102
Description: Today's 'good food' revolution has its roots in the soil of the organic movement. In Organic Revolutionary: A Memoir of the Movement for Real Food, Planetary Healing, and Human Liberation, Grace Gershuny traces the evolution of the organic movement and her experiences as a grassroots organizer that led her to help develop organic standards for USDA. Grace’s reflections on her 40+ years of activism and advocacy, and lessons learned in the process, illuminate many of the same debates and controversies that continue today. Now more than ever we need to form networks of solidarity in support of diverse efforts to reverse climate change and promote health, food justice, and equity for all. Books will be available for sale and signing. For more information please visit: www.organic-revolutionary.com.
Bio: Grace Gershuny is a Vermont-based organic pioneer, educator and author who helped develop the USDA’s regulations for organic agriculture. She is a board and faculty member of the Institute for Social Ecology and adjunct faculty at Green Mountain College. She has written extensively about soil and compost, and is currently working on updating The Rodale Book of Composting.
