Bayard Rustin's life partner Walter Naegle will discuss Bayard's evolution as an activist, how he moved from a radical Quaker pacifist to a more mainstream liberal Democrat.
Walter Naegle lived and worked with Bayard Rustin for the last decade of his life. Naegle was raised as a Roman Catholic but found that faith wanting in its positions on war, violence, and homosexuality. Although not a Quaker, he identified with Quaker values and has worked for the American Friends Service Committee and the New York Yearly Meeting. He was a volunteer with Prisoner Visitation and Support and with the GI Rights Hotline. He runs a small private foundation name for Rustin.
