Leading workshops for your Quaker meeting can help Friends grow, share ideas, and listen to Spirit together. A workshop can be a one-time event, a group discussion, or part of a longer renewal session. Good planning makes the experience meaningful for everyone.

Start With Worship

Begin your workshop with worship or a time of silence. This helps everyone settle in and brings the focus to Spirit before you start talking or learning.

Plan the Basics

When you plan your workshop, think ahead about these key items:

  • Childcare: Arrange care for children if people will need it.
  • Breaks and food: If your workshop is longer than two hours, include breaks and snacks or meals.
  • Different learning styles: Use a mix of teaching, movement, small groups, discussions, sharing, and creative activities.
  • Energy and timing: Plan activities that help keep energy up in the afternoon or after eating.
  • Start and end on time: Respect people’s schedules by keeping to the planned times.
  • Use a microphone: If available, a microphone helps everyone hear clearly.
  • Open conversation: It’s okay if discussions are not fully finished or some questions remain unanswered.

Invite Help and Speak From the Heart

You don’t need to do everything yourself. Ask others in your meeting to help with planning, leading, and welcoming people. Speak honestly and from the heart as you invite Spirit into your workshop. This makes the event more meaningful.
