Friends General Conference

Together we nurture the spiritual vitality of Friends

Abingdon Friends Meeting

Abingdon Friends meets in the Spirit House of the ElderSpirit Senior Co-Housing Community, located at 99 Trailview Drive near the beginning of the Virginia Creeper Trail. We are an un-programmed Meeting for Worship, we sit together in silence for an hour during which time people may be moved to speak. At the rise of Meeting we join hands and bid each other a “Good Morning” after which there a brief period of introductions, sharing and announcements.

EVERYONE is welcome to attend this Quaker Meeting for Worship. We welcome individuals from a wide range of religious traditions and practices, and are affirming of diverse genders, ethnicities, racial identification, sexual orientation and beliefs. As founder George Fox put it ”We walk cheerfully over the world, answering that of God in everyone.” So if you’re curious, looking for a spiritual home or visiting the area come check us out.

Meeting Times

Meeting for Worship begins at 10:30 a.m. each First Day (Sunday)

What's New

The first Sunday of the month something special happens at the rise of Meeting on a rotating basis - Social Event, Discussion Group or Meeting for Business.

We have just begun the study of this Pendle Hill Pamphlet, 399.  As expected it has stimulated much discussion regarding the interpretation of this chapter of Matthew.

It will help all of us to understand more about the Love of Jesus and that he spoke in metaphors and parables. Some of us have come from a background of you "live by the word and the word is literal" so this has opened those eyes to the reality that this is indeed metaphorical.

As we study together and open discussions many things come to light and are shared.  We look forward to this continued study.

In the middle of last year, 2016 our meeting began thinking about and sitting with the idea of changing yearly meetings from Baltimore Yearly Meeting to Piedmont Friends Yearly Meeting.

The reason being that Baltimore and most of the activities and events around BYM are geographically so far away.

We are down in the far south west corner of Virginia and as an aging meeting it became increasingly difficult for us to participate with BYM.
