Minutes Details:

Fox Valley Friends Meeting for Business, March 13, 2022 Final

Present: Katie B, Carol C, Jim C, Sue F, Jill H, Reed H, Tina M, Francesca P, Mary K - Clerk

Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the January 9 Meeting for Business were read and approved for
posting.

Treasurer’s Report: We have $490 in the bank. We have paid about half of our budgeted donations
for the year since we had the money to do so.

We will wait until fall to pay the rest depending on our financial situation.

We decided to pay $200 to Mauthe per quarter until we resume full time at the Mauthe. For the
second quarter of the year (April, May, and June), we will pay $200 to the Mauthe and $190 to
Feeding America.

New Business
New Clerk: The Clerk Search Committee nominated Carol C to be the next Clerk of our Meeting.
A minute of appreciation for outgoing Clerk, Mary K, was read and approved:

Mary, Fox Valley Friends Meeting is deeply grateful for your time as our clerk for the past 8
years. We thank you for your thoughtful and dedicated service as clerk, your tireless advocacy
for prisoners, the connections you have made between our Meeting and the wider faith
community in Green Bay, and your creative work with First Day School
We wish you all the best in the coming years. You will always have a place in our hearts.

State of Society Report: Attendees shared their thoughts on what should be in our State of Society
Report this year. Mary and Carol will put these thoughts into a draft report.

Reports from Coordinators of Work Projects
Budget: We will continue sending money to Feeding America for weeks we do not meet at the
Mauthe Center, and we will resume paying Mauthe when we attend there.

Care of Meeting for Worship: Carol has updated her personal technology and can now create a
hotspot for internet and do video on her laptop. With these upgrades she can run a Zoom meeting from the Mauthe Center.
After considering several options, it was decided to try having a blended meeting at the Mauthe
Center on the fourth Sunday of each month. This will be March 27 and April 24. Everyone is
encouraged to attend these Meetings for Worship in-person, if possible. We are anxious to worship
together in-person again. These Meetings for Worship will be followed by a potluck, just like we used
to do. On other Sundays we will continue to have a blended meeting with Zoom links and in-person
worship at the home of Carol and Jim.

The situation will be re-considered at May Meeting for Business based on these experiences. March
and April will give us the chance to try out different technology options at the Mauthe, including the
360-degree camera. The Mauthe Center has found it to work well for meetings where everyone is
seated around a table. In general, we believe having the Zoom option increases attendance, having in-
person worship is important and meaningful to many, and Zoom works very well for conducting
Meeting for Business.

First Day School: This should be added to the agenda for May Meeting for Business since we will
need a new FDS lead teacher after Mary moves away.

Prison Ministry: Tina reported on the continuing work of WISDOM, EXPO and GAMALIEL
regarding criminal justice system reform. It is recommended we refer to persons in the system as
“incarcerated individuals” rather than “prisoners” or “inmates” or other terms frequently used.
Potlucks: Next scheduled potluck is March 18 and attenders will discuss plans for future potlucks at
that time. The new plans will be sent out to the FVFM e-mail list.

FCNL: On Sunday, April 10, after Meeting for Worship, we will have a threshing session on our
Meeting’s priorities for FCNL legislative work. FCNL would like us to send them seven priorities
with a 30 word description of each. These must be submitted on-line by April 12.
Background information to prepare for this discussion can be found here:

priorities?akid=21275.31082.XTO7gx&rd=1&t=16&utm_campaign=priorities&utm_medium=email
&utm_source=ak

NYM: NYM Annual Session will be held on Memorial Day Weekend via Zoom.
Adult Education: Tina will re-send an e-mail with a link to “Reawakening: Return of Lightness and
Peace after My Daughter’s Murder” by her sister, Barb Mangi. There were some issues with the links
previously sent out. If anyone is interested in having a follow-up discussion on this topic, please let
her know.

Next Meeting for Business: The next FVFM Meeting for Business will be May 15, 2022.

Respectfully submitted,
Mary Klos, Clerk
