The principle underlying these Guidelines is that there is that of God/the Spirit/the Light in every human being. This principle is at the heart of our Quaker experience and forms the basis of our historic testimonies: our opposition to war and use of violence against others and our recognition of the worth and rights of all persons regardless of their gender, race, cultural/ethnic background, sexual orientation or history of hurtful behavior.
