News & Announcements
You are invited to join a field trip at 1:45 pm on Sunday, February 25 to see three exhibits on Syrian refugees at the American Swedish Historical Museum. The field trip is organized by CHFM’s Refugee Support Working Group. After seeing the exhibits, participants are invited to have an early dinner together at the Lebanese restaurant Manakeesh Café & Bakery in West Philadelphia.
Admission to the museum is free.
Dinner at Manakeesh at 4420 Walnut St. is estimated to cost from $15 to $25 per person.
Due to the high level of interest, there will be two groups meeting at different times but discussing the book Waking Up White by Debby Irving, on the same schedule. One group will meet on Sunday, 9-10am; the other on Tuesday, 1-2pm. The first Sunday meeting is planned for March 11, the first Tuesday meeting for March 13. The first meeting of both groups will be held at the meetinghouse.
In a new twist for our always joyous Christmas Breakfast, our member John Bieniek made a huge "coloring book" mural (on paper) on the wall of the Social Room. Children and some of their adults enjoyed personalizing it during the breakfast. Here's a slideshow from the event. Letter from our member Tee Bushnell, sent Friday, October 13, 2017
Dear Ann & Phil: I am amazed and truly grateful by how quickly restoration and repairs are being made here. I cannot believe it has only been one week since Hurricane Nate struck. It really seems like an eternity.
FDS Term: September 2017 through June 2018 (10 months - no classes Jul. & Aug.)
Supervisor: Clerk, Religious Education (RE) Committee
Summary of Responsibilities:
Ten Friends met on Wednesday, Jan.25 to consider how or if to proceed with “adopting” a refugee family. The CHFM Peace and Social Concerns committee suggested to the January Meeting for Business that the amount of work and commitment involved was best undertaken by a separate committee, dedicated to this work, hence the formation of this investigative group.
