Alaska Friends understand themselves to be living on growing edge of climate disruption, hoping to build a sustainable future with rightly ordered relations between families, community, environment, and earth. Individually and in various groups and collaborations, we are finding ways to make the case that addressing climate disruption is a moral and spiritual imperative.

Friendly Facts about Alaska Friends Conference:

  •  Anchorage Friends hosted a large joyous celebration of marriage of two people who had been active in the struggle for gay rights years ago, eventually leaving the U.S. to be able to love and live openly. They discovered Friends in England and this past year, with the adoption of marriage equality in Alaska, wrote to Anchorage Friends asking to celebrate their marriage in the manner of Friends. The event drew many people from outside the Friends community.
  • Alaska Friends are working to literally ground our YM Meeting House. A simple cabin at the side of a small lake – a part of the homestead of founding member Ashley Dickerson donated to Friends some years ago – the supporting posts shifted and sank in the unstable soil over the years, requiring substantial engineering and construction work to correct. FGC’s Friends Meeting House Fund and Philadelpha Yearly Meeting (PYM) have contributed to this ongoing effort; Alaska Friends have donated expertise and many hundreds of hours of labor. We hope some of you will join us next July during Annual Gathering sharing rustic living in the wood and fun on the tranquil Lake Ashley.
