Parker Palmer writes of the tragic gap between what is and what should/could be – Jesus’ “kingdom of God.” Jesus’ story provides insight for us. Listening to each other helps us to heal and gain courage to be in the gap with an open heart.

Workshop Description

Monday we will participate in a variety of listening exercises to build community and strengthen our listening skills- What is on your heart? Where are you hurting? Are there any hurts because of past messages about Jesus?

Tuesday we will look at visions of the kingdom-the “gap”- in  Jesus’ sayings and parables  We will envision our own should/could.

Wednesday: Jesus listens as a part of healing-the woman at the well, the woman with the flow of blood, etc.  We will share stories of when we listened-or were listened to-that helped  healing.

Thursday: The cross-we will do an exercise seeing how the 4 points of the cross can present the stresses that can shatter the heart or keep it grounded-how does Jesus, how can we, guard against the heart shattering giving us courage to act to heal the tragic gap?

Friday: We will access our courage to move forward. Are there ways to bring our listening skills back to our meetings and community?

We begin with silent worship and end with worship sharing that focuses on the “theme” of the day.
Every day has small breakouts and even sharing in 2s so all feel heard and can listen – both to oneself and to others.
