Workshop Description

In worship we root ourselves in Truth, Love and Life. United in the Light, we return to the Word that was at the beginning and lives in us. In that Light, our Shepherd, we have our rest, our strength, our victory.

In Daily Extended Meeting for Worship we keep to the simplicity of Friends’ devotion. The divine encounter starts when the first person walks into the meeting place. We close meeting with a handshake. We follow the same guideline that our forebears found useful: to surrender our willing, our worrying, our wanting, our reasoning into the hands of Light eternal, and open ourselves to the contemplation of Spirit God. God is love. Worship is loving – loving God and loving each other in God. In that act of love, we allow the blessings of divine Love to pour on us and in us. In the pools of divine goodness we are renewed; in the fire of divine clarity we are purified; in the song of divine joy we are reborn into Spirit’s freedom, power and compassion.

In our daily worship at the gathering our sacred covenant is that of meeting into what unites us and holds us. Words that are felt to be unnecessary or superfluous are generally avoided, to make a welcoming space to those that come to us pregnant with life and mutual caring.

A brief orientation may be offered verbally at the beginning of our first meeting, when it seems that most or all Friends planning to attend are present.

Some time will be allowed at the end of meeting for introductions, when necessary, and for additional spiritual sharing.

Some flexibility and forbearance may be required around meeting’s ending time. Meeting for worship is a sacred affair, a living process, and closing meeting is a delicate act, which asks for gentleness, discernment – and loving care.
