A 2023 Gathering Evening Program

Lauren Brownlee is Friends Committee on National Legislation’s inaugural Associate General Secretary for Community & Culture and the leader of the new FCNL Community & Culture team. She supports FCNL’s Quaker engagement, young adult program, and Friends Place on Capitol Hill and helps to steward FCNL’s shared anti-racism, anti-bias, justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments.

A member of Bethesda (MD) Friends Meeting in Baltimore Yearly Meeting, Lauren has served on committees addressing peace, justice, and diversity. She has served on the boards of the DC Peace Team and the National Farm Worker Ministry as well as the Steering Committees for the Quaker Coalition for Uprooting Racism and the Quaker Palestine/Israel Network. She also enjoys writing book reviews for Friends Journal.

An alumna of Sidwell Friends School, Lauren both taught history there  and served as assistant director of auxiliary programs. Before coming to FCNL, Lauren was the upper-school head at Carolina Friends School and, before that, the director of social action at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. Lauren’s life and work seek to build Beloved Community.
