This workshop will focus on all aspects, both theoretical and practical, of being a presiding clerk of a Friends meeting or committee. There will be handouts and opportunities for experience sharing. All work will be done in a whole group setting. There will be a $10 materials charge.

Workshop Description

Using handouts and hypotheticals, the following are some of the concepts we will examine in the course of the workshop:

*What does it mean to know the will of God?

*Sense of the meeting

*Unity

*Impasse

*Standing aside

*Being not in unity

*The role of those present

*The role of the clerk

*Preparing the agenda

*The use of committees

*Dysfunctions found in the use of Quaker process

*Conflict 

*Options if unity is not apparent

*Techniques for contributing to a climate of safety

*Discernment.

 

Leader Experience

Over the last sixteen years, since 2001, I have led 14 clerking workshops at the Gathering. Since 1992 I have led over 200 similar workshops for Quaker meetings, schools, retirement communities and organizations.
