Sevierville MLK Parade - Marjie & John Richardson and Friends
We are a group that believes change starts with listening but it ends with actions. Here is a list of some activities WKFM supports, either through silent worship, donations of our time, or financial support.
FCNL Letter Writing Group: We gather at the Meetinghouse at least monthly to discuss events relevant to our local and national legislators. As part of Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), we write letters to local and national leaders so they are in touch with how constituents feel about social issues. FCNL is a nonpartisan organization that seeks to live our values of integrity, simplicity, and peace as we build relationships across political divides to move policies forward.
Showing Up for Racial Justice: We work in the Blount County chapter of SURJ, part of a national network organizing white people for racial justice. We are active in the movement to change from bystanders to upstanders utilizing the 4 Ds principle: Distract, Delegate, Direct, Delay in order to safely intervene in support of victims experiencing oppressive interpersonal harassment of any type. AFSC is a founding organization of this training technique.
Family Promise: We work as a support organization to provide meals and assistance to combat homelessness in our own backyard. Family Promise of Knoxvilleis a nonprofit organization that unites with the interfaith community to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence.
Tennessee Interfaith Power and Light (TIPL): The mission of TIPL is to spiritually respond to the challenges of the climate crisis through upholding the sacredness of all life, protecting vulnerable communities, and caring for the Earth. Spiritual values are manifested by reducing our carbon footprint within our daily lives, releasing the spiritual power of our faith communities, and advocating for transformative climate protection and justice policies.
