FCNL Advocacy Team Workshop

A message from Kate Caldwell:

Hello Friends!

WKFM has a tremendous opportunity to collaborate with others in our community to make effective change in Congress.  How's that for hope!!  Please join us for the FCNL Advocacy Team workshop on Wednesday, June 22, at the Meeting House.

We will begin the evening with a potluck at 6:00 p.m. and the formal program will commence at 6:30 p.m.  Maiya Zwerling is the national field organizer for the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), and she's training Advocacy Teams around the country to help break the gridlock in Congress.  I'm hopeful that one can be established in the Knoxville area, and the June 22 workshop is the first step in seeing if this is possible.  The workshop will give folks more information about the Advocacy Team model and help individuals decide if they want to get involved.

Attached is a flyer for the event that you can share with your colleagues, family, friends and networks.  I think the Advocacy Teams offer a direct and effective way to engage the political process and make positive change.  The national focus will be on Mass Incarceration at least through April 2017, to make sure that this message gets in front of the next Congress and Administration.

Organizers are busy spreading the word to various faith and justice groups in our area, and it would be wonderful to have a good showing from WKFM as hosts of the event.  Please let Kate know if you plan to attend, and if you are able to bring a dish for the potluck! Thank you for helping to spread the word, and I really hope to see you on Wednesday, June 22, for an evening of learning and relationship building!!

in service and Light,

Kate
