George Lakey is an activist, sociologist, and writer who has added academic underpinning to the concept of nonviolent revolution. He has also refined the practice of experiential training for activists which he calls "Direct Education." His writing and workshops teach how to increase the effectiveness of nonviolent social movements. A Quaker, he has co-founded and led numerous organizations and campaigns for justice and peace. His latest book Viking Economics has received accolades from activists and scholars, including Bill McKibben, who called it "completely fascinating."

Speaking of of Viking Economics, Frances Moore Lappe, author of Diet for a Small Planet, said, "Brilliant, fun to read, and most timely. Lakey busts key myths that keep us believing we can't have the society we want. Bravo for this great source of evidence-grounded hope!"
