Together we nurture the spiritual vitality of Friends

White Fragility Reading Group

Raleigh Friends Meeting will be starting a reading and discussion group about racism and white privilege. The group will be reading "White Fragility, Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism" by Robin Diangelo. This is a very current book and we'll be able to discuss how we contribute (or not) to the structure and system of racism as we explore each chapter using a study guide by the author.

The first meeting will be on Thursday, July 25, 7:00pm, at Raleigh Friends Meeting. We will use this first meeting to discuss logistics of the group: how often we want to meet (every two weeks has been suggested); how much time we will use each meeting (90 minutes, two hours?); how many chapters we want to cover, who can help facilitate each meeting, etc.

If you'd like to be included on an order for the book, please let Deborah B know asap. M&C will purchase the books and for those that feel led, they can reimburse the meeting ($13.84). Other options include borrowing it from the Library or purchasing/ordering it on your own.

We hope to have as many members and attenders of RFM join this book study group as possible as we strive to learn more about ourselves and make our Meeting more diverse and welcoming to all.

Please let Deborah B (deborahbromiley12@gmail.com) know if you can attend the July 25 meeting. If you cannot attend this first meeting, but would like to attend subsequent meetings, please let her know that also.
