User Adoption

How have you gotten people to start using your website?  Would you like to see people using it more?  Did you know that this is an issue that all meetings face on some level?  The fact is, user adoption is always a tricky thing.  Here are a couple of things to consider trying with your meeting to boost user adoption:

What’s in a name? - Communications Working Group

Many meetings have a Website Committee that oversees work on the website.  One meeting found that once they changed the word “Website” to “Communications”, more Friends were willing to join.  People who found the word “Website” intimidating may still have a lot to contribute to the internal and external communications of the meeting.  By involving Friends who have communications gifts – just not web experience – the website has more supporters and better content.

It also may be helpful to describe this group of Friends as a working group instead of a committee.  This helps members of the group and the meeting as a whole understand that participation in the group does involve hands-on work that may be a little different that other types of committee work.

The more Friends involved with groups like these, the more lively your website will be, and the more points of contact there are for Friends to engage with the site.

Google Analytics

The Quaker Cloud uses Google Analytics.  This tool gives us information on how many people look at what page and when.  If you are interested in learning more about how your site is doing on Google Analytics, contact Cloud Support.

Use a Carrot

It is often said that there are two ways to motivate people: a carrot and a stick.  A carrot is something that will motivate members and attenders to visit your site.  What could your carrot be? Do you have photos from a recent event?  Do you have a member directory Friends might like to view?  Carrots are a great way to improve user adoption rates.

Does your meeting have any tips to help improve user adoption? What did you try that worked? What did you try that didn't work?
