Racism and Reconciliation: A Meeting for Learning

Providence Meeting has committed to a year-long exploration of racism and white privilege. As part of this, we invite members and attenders of Providence to join a new adult-education program to deepen our understanding of these issues. In order to develop a deep level of trust within the group that will enable everyone to share his or her own story, we are asking for a commitment to attend as many of the sessions as possible. Out of the ensuing atmosphere of support, we will explore often-difficult topics while providing an opportunity for growth and enlightenment. The program will meet on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 9:30 am, excluding the month of December.

We will develop guidelines for safe sharing and active listening and share our experiences around race. In subsequent sessions, we will maintain the sacred space while learning, discussing, and sharing our stories. Topics may include White Privilege, Institutional Racism, Race as a Social vs. Biological Construct, Cultural Sensitivity, Micro-Aggressions and Policing in a Diverse Society, among others.

We hope you will join us on this journey.

Upcoming Session: February 12 at 9:30 am. Childcare will be provided.

The Racism and White Privilege Working Group continues to engage other PMM committees and community groups; stay tuned for additional opportunities to understand and undermine racism as we pursue beloved community.
