Quaker Silent Worship

“Silence is the language of God, all else is poor translation."  (Rumi)

  • Worship is based on silent waiting, where we expect to come into the presence of God.
  • In this living silence, we listen for the still, small voice that comes from God through the Inward Light.
  • Worshiping together in silence is a way for a community to be brought together in love and faithfulness under God’s presence.
  • During silent worship, anyone may feel inspired by the Spirit to give vocal ministry (speak out of the silence).
  • After the person speaks, there is a silence to allow contemplation of the message.  While the message might be inspirational, it is not intended to begin a dialogue.

Beliefs of the ‘RSF’ (Religious Society of Friends):
  • There is “that of God” in everyone, -- Everyone is known by God and can know God in a direct relationship.
  • We are called to attend to this relationship and to be guided by it.
  • Quakers invite the word of God to be written in our hearts, rather than as words on paper—we have no creed.
  • If we are sincerely open to the Divine Will, we will be guided by a Wisdom that is more compelling than our own thoughts and feelings.
  • ‘Community’ is essential to Quaker decision-making. We turn to each other for worshipful help in making important choices.
Quaker Testimonies

Quaker experience has identified essential  values, called “testimonies”.  These include:

·            Simplicity

·            Integrity

·            Equality

·            Peace

·            Community

And Truth is the ground of all.

Closing the Worship Meeting

We stand and join hands in a moment of silence.  We then introduce ourselves and greet those around us.

You are welcome to stay for refreshments.
