Worship-sharing on the power of spiritual discipline

We often speak of New Year’s Resolutions. These resolutions often have to do with habits that we wish to change, or things we wish to learn about.

The Parable of the Sower speaks to a different way of looking at making resolutions for our life. It asks us to pay attention to what is necessary to do in order to allow Spirit to nurture us, to cultivate growth and then fruit in our lives.

Among Friends, we have many personal spiritual disciplines that help us to be open to the nurture of Spirit.

Some of these disciplines are: meditation or other retreat from the busy-ness of the world, prayer of different kinds, journaling, reading sacred texts, creativity, remembering that we don’t “know it all” and carrying that humility in the world, service to others…

Are there incidents in your life where a particular spiritual discipline has been particularly helpful?

How has a particular spiritual activity helped you this past year?
