Mountain View Friends Meeting

Mountain View Friends Meeting is a Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (often known as "Quakers"). We welcome people from all faiths and those of no particular faith. We are all seeking the Divine together. Our meeting practices “unprogrammed” worship. This means that we gather to wait for God’s ministry to come to us out of the silence without appointed clergy as a guide. We have no creed or dogma, but we do have testimonies which guide our actions. Those testimonies include simplicity, peace, integrity, community, and equality. Friends believe that putting our faith into action in the world is important.

What to Expect at a Meeting
When you come into the meetinghouse before worship you may find some Friends already sitting in silence. There is generally a “centering” that occurs at the beginning of Meetings when Friends seek to clear their minds of distractions and come to a receptive state. We listen and wait for a direct experience of the Divine. Some may be moved to share their experience by standing and speaking. About 15 minutes before the end of worship, the children enter the room to join us in worship. The meeting ends when friends shake hands and greet each other. Following worship, Friends share joys and sorrows, welcome new people, share announcements and enjoy a time of fellowship.

What's New

Members of the Capital Campaign team have been listening hard to voices in our community. What we have heard is that most people would like to have a sabbatical from discussion about the future of the Meeting House beyond what is needed to support the agreed-upon revitalization work on the exterior and interior of the building.I n the coming months, $50,000 needs to be raised from our community, which will be matched by $50,000. We are initiating a Quiet Campaign. We will not be burdening community members with training or visits, and we will not be making loud calls for pledges. We will rely on members of the community to step forward, now that we have come to a decision on what to do to improve our worship and community space. We have faith that this calm approach will be sufficient to meet our current goal, and we feel that this simple solution allows us to act in integrity with the current desires of the community, not to raise more money than we need at this time.

Friends Meeting at Cambridge (FMC) seeks a full-time Coordinator to start by August 15, 2016, or as soon as possible.  We seek a dynamic, spiritual, thoughtful, engaging, fun person who loves working with youth (from infants to high schoolers) and families in a Quaker setting.
