Rex Ambler is a British Quaker and author who has spent a considerable amount of time studying the early history of Quakers and the writings of George Fox. About 20 years ago he suggested that he had found in Fox’s epistles the description of a process that led him to understand what early Quakers did and experienced when turning to the Inner Light for guidance. He presented this to British Friends in the form of a guided meditation, which has subsequently been practiced by many Friends. Ambler described his process of discovery and the practice of turning to the Inner light in a the publication “Light to Live By.”
JoAnn Seaver has facilitated sessions following Ambler’s approach at her own meeting, Green Street Friends, since 2002, and at Friends General Conference. She also facilitates a monthly “Light Group.” JoAnn will first describe Ambler’s research and findings and then led us in about a 40 minute guided meditation using Ambler’s approach. Afterwards we will share our experience of this approach with one another. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about and experience the practice that inspired early Quakers and encouraged them to “let their lives speak.”
Friends who have been introduced to this practice have found it most effective if continued as part of a “Light Group.” If there is such an interest among participants, we will explore the organization of such an on-going group.
A light lunch will be served. In order that we know how much food to provide an RSVP is ESSENTIAL. Please send to [email protected].
