Friends General Conference

Together we nurture the spiritual vitality of Friends

Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia (Arch Street)

Invitation to Worship

"Be still and know that I am God"

We welcome you to our meeting for worship. We gather in worshipful silence, intending to open ourselves wholly to the Divine Spirit, which we believe is within and beyond each person. Our worship has no human leader and no planned program. Sometimes no words are spoken; sometimes a person is led to minister vocally. Each person present contributes to the depth of worship we reach as a group. The meeting is ended, usually after about an hour, by the shaking of hands initiated by persons appointed to do so, from our Worship and Ministry committee.

Information for Visitors

•  Nursery / Children / First Day School

•  Parking

Visitors are invited to join us for refreshments and conversation following the rise of meeting for worship. Please sign the visitors' book, and sign up on the clipboard if you'd like to be added to our e-list. Welcoming committee members are available to answer questions about Quakerism, and to give a brief tour of the historic meetinghouse. On Third First Days we have a potluck lunch, to which all are invited, before our meeting for business (September to June only).

If you come to worship mid-week, the format is different. We worship for about 45 minutes, and there are no refreshments served. However, the greeter will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

PLEASE NOTE: Despite the Meeting House's limited summer hours, our two worship times will remain in effect through the summer and beyond!

In case you are looking to arrange for a visit of the historic Arch Street Meeting House (the building is owned by PYM, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, and managed by the Arch Street Meeting House Preservation Trust), please go here for information:  www.archstreetmeetinghouse.org

Arch Street Meeting House was the starting point for the 2018 Interfaith Walk for Peace and Reconciliation on April 29, 2018. Monthly meeting members participated in the welcoming of hundreds of walkers from many different faith communities across Philadelphia and the region. This was the first time the walk began at a Friends meeting house.
