Wealth Inequality - The Start of a Conversation

In February, nine Friends gathered to begin a conversation on wealth inequality. Susan urged Friends not to seek solutions just yet but instead to open ourselves to the complexity of the topic and to allow ourselves to explore how faith communities are supports in navigating this topic. We began with videos that helped us visualize our misconceptions and conceptualize the realities of wealth inequality in America, and we explored the profound impact of weath inequality over generations, especially in cases where that inequality has been driven by overt acts of white supremacy and covert acts of institutional racism. We watched a short video of the importance of faith communities in the town of Nicodemus, Kansas, an African American town that has survived whereas Tulsa's Black Wall Street and other successful community-driven African American towns were destroyed. And we spent most of our time watching an economist's case for reparations. Friends left the conversation wanting to know more about some specific topics covered - for example, evictions - and also to learn more about the nuts-and-bolts of how reparations could be actualized and could be reparative to our country.

Here's the full list of videos Susan curated, including those we didn't get to:
