A Quaker meeting in the northern suburbs of Chicago

HUMAN RIGHTS SYMPOSIUM

Lake Forest Friends (Quakers) Meeting extends to the community an invitation to engage with and learn from those involved in the work of social justice, environmental justice, civil rights, and ethical political process. We will discuss the role of activism in bringing these issues to the citizen, the voter, and the "public". Our framework will be the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document that details in thirty Articles the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.

The purpose of this symposium is to exchange information and establish a space within which the diverse opinions can be explored in a thoughtful dialogue.  We want to provide a safe place to share concerns, reveal pain and seek solace and strength from each other.

Embedded in the acronym PEACE is the phrase: People Everywhere Actively Caring for Everyone.  Defining and determining the dynamic of Actively Caring will be one of our objectives at the symposium   Working towards discovering that dynamic is an important step in making PEACE into a reality.  Absent truth and justice, there is no PEACE
