What does love require of you? How do you discern what love requires of you? Do you use your time, energy, resources, gifts, and material possessions in the service of God’s love?

Kenneth Boulding was a Quaker economist, philosopher, peace activist, and educator who died in 1993. He wrote:

The love of God ... makes us free, for it draws us to set a low value on those things wherein we are subject to others – our wealth, our position, our reputation, and our life – and to set a high value on those things which no man can take from us – our integrity, our righteousness, our love for all men, and our communion with God.

William Penn was a member of the British aristocracy at the turn into the 18th century and an early, famous Quaker who founded the colony of Pennsylvania. He wrote:

We are too ready to retaliate, rather than forgive, or gain by Love and Information. And yet we could hurt no Man that we believe loves us. Let us then try what Love will do: For if Men did once see we Love them, we should soon find they would not harm us.

Ram Dass was a spiritual teacher, psychologist, and author. He was born Richard Alpert in 1931 and died just a few days ago. He wrote:

I would like my life to be a statement of love and compassion, and where it isn't, that's where my work lies.
