Kent Friends Meeting, established in 1965, is a member meeting of Lake Erie Yearly Meeting. It is an unprogrammed Quaker meeting for worship, meaning we have no designated pastor, preacher, or minister. We begin our worship in expectant silence as those present settle into a quiet and patient personal reverence that strives to remain open to the leadings of God upon our hearts. It is not uncommon for some of those present to be moved to speak and share in vocal ministry. It is also not unusual for the entire worship time to pass with no spoken ministry; this does not mean we have not had a time of meaningful personal and corporate spiritual depth.
Kent Friends is a small meeting of Quakers from a number of communities: Kent, Ravenna, Aurora, Stow, Hudson, North Canton and Rittman. As individuals we are involved in local and area peace and social justice efforts, and together as a Meeting work with Kent Social Services in Kent, Ohio. Adult discussions are regularly scheduled for January, February and March.
We warmly welcome children to join in our worship time. Please call in advance to help us plan for small children.
