"As many candles lighted and put in one place do greatly augment the light and make it more to shine forth, so when many are gathered together into the same life there is more of the glory of God, and God's power appears to the refreshment of each individual, for each partakes not only of the light and life raised in oneself, but in all the rest."

-- Robert Barclay (1648-1690)

Gunpowder Friends Meeting is an unprogrammed meeting of the Religious Society of Friends.  We worship in silence and without ritual, liturgy, creed, sermon or prepared music. Meeting for Worship begins at 10:00 AM each Sunday.  First Day School for children & youth begins at 10:15 AM.  Children generally spend the first fifteen minutes of worship with their parents, and we welcome the small and cheerful noises they make as we settle into the silence.

In addition to worship, there are many spiritually enriching, community engaging activities at Gunpowder.  Sunday activities include gatherings around Spirit & Nature, Bible Study, Forums with guest speakers on a variety of topics, Coffee Social, Letter Writing, and a Richard Rohr discussion group.

Silent Retreat Day is held on the second Saturday each month and includes a delicious luncheon.  Additionally there is a Spiritual Formation program that meets monthly for shared meals and discussion of readings and spiritual practices. Gunpowder Friends love to eat together and share together.

Gunpowder is one of several monthly meetings and Quaker groups in the area.  These include a worship group and monthly lunch group that meet at nearby Broadmead (a Friendly retirement community), Stony Run and Homewood Meetings in Baltimore, and Little Falls Meeting in Fallston.  There is also a worship group that meets on Tuesdays at 11:00 AM in the Quaker Meeting House on the Campus of Sheppard Pratt, in Towson.

Gunpowder is a part of Chesapeake Quarterly Meeting, and as a part of Baltimore Yearly Meeting, a regional Quaker organization including meetings in several states, we utilize the Baltimore Yearly Meeting's Guide to Faith & Practice.  Gunpowder is connected to the greater Quaker world through its affiliations with Friends General Conference (FGC), the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), the Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) and Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC).
