The 1894 meetinghouse is finally ours!
This photograph must have been taken in the first decade of its life, since the former parsonage (missing from this picture) was built in 1903.
Our recent business meeting embraced the building as a permanent location for Friends of the Light Monthly Meeting.  As our clerk said, "No more pondering as to whether we should stay or find something newer, more efficient, etc.  The fact of the matter is, we love our old building - it is ours, and we are determined to be good stewards of its care and to continue to have wonderful worship and fellowship in it for long long years to come.... We received a quit claim deed from Indiana Yearly Meeting and it is filed away in the archives at the registrar's office in Traverse City.  How good is that?"
Now that we own the meetinghouse free and clear, we are turning our attention to making the sanctuary accessible to wheelchair users and exploring the best place for a ramp.
Even though they are heavy to move around, we love our old benches, and to make them more comfortable, we are going to add blue padded cushions. There will be a fabric cutting-out bee in the basement, and an opportunity to "sponsor a pew pad."
