Prayer Flags for Earth Day - First Day Activity
To celebrate Earth Day, Frederick Friends Meeting has a special First Day School activity. FDS will lead the meeting in creating flags fashioned after Tibetan Prayer flags using brightly colored cotton. Participants are asked to think about some special part of the earth that they love, for which they feel grateful, and/or that they might wish to be protected. They then draw or write about it on a small rectangle of cotton cloth with fabric markers. The flags will be assembled and flow in the back of the Meeting House near the play area. The good intentions of the flag maker are said to spread over the earth each time the wind blows.
