2018 Annual Retreat
Please join us for our annual retreat at Camp Catoctin! Our theme this year is Walk Cheerfully Over the Earth.
Environment
Catoctin is a beautifully wooded site, with a gravel parking lot and somewhat rustic trails. The “’Goon” (short for Lagoon) is a centerpiece of the camp. Canoes, a beach for sand play, and a dock for sunning are part of the attraction.
If you are bringing young children bring plenty of extra clothing and towels. No matter what the temperature of the water or air, being muddy and wet is part of the retreat experience! Shoes are necessary except in water play, as a couple of chestnut trees leave their prickly fruit on the grounds! (Be careful not to pitch your tent near one!).
What to Bring
- flashlights
- warm bedding
- extra clothing
- sturdy shoes
- fold up lawn chairs for more comfortable seating outdoors
- rain gear
- bug spray
- sunblock
- songbooks
- cameras
- journals
- most importantly bring good cheer!
Cell phone reception is not great, but there is a landline phone for emergencies.
Program
Friday evening is unprogrammed. It usually consists of fellowship over a simple meal (pizza is usually on the menu). Please arrive after 4:00pm. Some wheelbarrows are available to transport your camping gear. After the meal we gather for song and storytelling.
Saturday programs begin after breakfast. There will be an intergenerational activity for the entire camp (10:00-11:45am). After lunch we will have several options during two time blocks (roughly 1:30-2:45pm, 3:00-5:0pm). Activities are still under development, but may include dance, dramatic reading, flower walk, tree planting, painting, or fairie gardens. After dinner we will gather at the fire circle for s'mores and singing.
Sunday morning we will gather for worship at 10:30am. Campers will disperse after lunch.
