Meeting Online for Worship
While we are isolating ourselves physically to slow the spread of the coronavirus, we will not be isolating ourselves socially or spiritually. Here's how Frederick Friends Meeting will be worshipping online for the foreseeable future.
We'll be using Zoom, a popular teleconferencing service. On Sundays, we'll open the online meeting room at 10:00 a.m. so that people have time to log in. At 10:30, we'll begin worship. When worship ends at 11:30, we'll keep the meeting room open until noon so that people can chat.
Here's the link to join our meeting: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/335161516
When you click the link, you'll be prompted to download the Zoom app onto your computer or mobile device. If you haven't downloaded it already, follow the instructions for doing so when prompted.
Our meeting ID is: 335 161 516. Enter this into the Zoom app to join the meeting. **UPDATE 4/5/2020: A password is now required to join Zoom meetings. Please email [email protected] to get the password for our meeting.**
Once you join the meeting, you'll see icons for muting/unmuting, volume control, and other options at the bottom of your screen.
While worshipping, please keep yourself muted to block out background noise. If you have a message, unmute yourself to speak, but then remute when you are finished. As always, allow some silence in between messages and try not to speak more than once per meeting.
If you need to get the attention of the meeting host (in this case, the clerk), use the chat feature.
At the moment, we can only do meetings through the Zoom app; phone-only meeting participation is currently dicey due to the increased volume of Zoom meetings. **UPDATE 4/5/2020: Phone participation is now possible; use one of the following numbers if you are calling in the United States:
- +1 646 876 9923
- +1 312 626 6799
- +1 669 900 6833
- +1 253 215 8782
- +1 301 715 8592
- +1 346 248 7799
- +1 408 638 0968
Be sure to enter the meeting number and password when prompted (see above for details).**
We recognize that not everyone in our community has ready access to the technology needed to participate in an online meeting for worship. Ministry & Counsel Committee will be working with the co-clerks of Meeting to ensure that as many people as possible can worship.
This is a difficult time for all of us, but we have faith that meeting in this way will help maintain the bonds of our community. As George Fox, the founder of the Religious Society of Friends, once said, God does not "dwell in temples made with hands," but in our hearts. Wherever and however we worship, we trust that God will be there with us.
