Letter Writing Campaign for legislative action
How can Farmington Friends Meeting help to reign in gun violence?
If you are appalled by gun violence plaguing our country, fight back! Let your representatives in Congress know of your concerns and urge them to pass bills already in the House and Senate. Peace and Social Concerns is organizing a letter-writing campaign to our representatives in Congress. On Sunday, November 10, after meeting for worship we will go to the Education Wing. This is envisioned as an old-fashioned pen-to-paper exercise which will last about an hour.
Peace and Social Concerns will provide writing paper with our Meeting's new letterhead as well as envelopes, pre-addressed labels to our Senators and return address labels. Post cards will also be available. Peace and Social Concerns will cover the mailing expenses. After a brief introduction, the remaining time will be devoted to writing letters. Templates will be available to help you create your letter depending on several focus areas such as but not limited to
- Mandatory background checks (Favored by over 90% of Americans)
- Assault weapon bans.
- Licensing of guns owners.
- Adoption of improved safety locks on guns
We hope to see you there!
