Sacred Harp Singers
The Berks Sacred Harp Singers sing at the Meetinghouse from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on the third and fourth Sundays of each month, rain or shine. Our songbook is the Sacred Harp, which is a collection of a capella hymns in four-part harmony popularized in various parts of Appalachia, mostly from the Colonial period through the 19th Century. The singings have spread throughout much of North America and are now gaining popularity in Europe, with much inter-visitation between the groups. Loaner books are available, as well as singers who gladly sit next to newcomers and tutor them. There is no cost, but a small donation to the Meeting is welcome.
