Friends General Conference

Together we nurture the spiritual vitality of Friends

Discussion Group - September 2016

The Easton Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) will hold a series of discussions on ways to become a positive influence in today's world (from a Quaker perspective). All are welcome. Those wishing to bring a brown-bag supper may come at 6:15 for fellowship prior to the discussion.

Living the Quaker Way, by Phllip Gulley - which Publishers Weekly has named "a top 10 religion read - will be used to guide the discussion, but it is not necessary to have read any of this book in order to attend. About this book, Dr. Parker J. Palmer, founder of the Center for Courage and Renewal, has said, “Ever since I 'discovered' Quakerism, I’ve wondered why Quakers are so quiet about their core values—simplicity, peace, integrity, community, and equality—in a world that so clearly needs them. So I was thrilled to find this book by Phil Gulley, a great Quaker writer, aimed at making those values more accessible. Gulley makes no effort to convince the reader to become a Quaker. He simply says, 'If you’ve been looking for ways to live out these values, here’s what Quakers have learned over three and a half centuries of dedicated experimentation.'"

Subsequent discussions will be held on Tuesday, October 18, and Tuesday, November 15. For more information call 518-587-8932.
