Spring 2018

The Call to New Mexico Regional Meeting

Theme: Sustaining the Spirit in Worship and Service

The light shines on in the dark and the darkness has never quenched it. (John1:5)  Gila Friends Meeting invites you to join us for New Mexico Regional Meeting’s spring gathering, April 13, 14, and 15, 2018 in Silver City, New Mexico.  Together we will nourish, deepen, and sustain the light within us, look within and listen in the calm stillness of meeting for worship, share with each other, and carry the unquenchable light into the world.

Many of us find ourselves engaged in and occupied with the important activities that compel us to act from our faith.  Friends in our meeting feel the need to explore how to nourish and deepen our worship. How do we sustain ourselves and our meetings as we follow faithfully and with courage the leadings that are given to us in worship?  Deborah Humphries, and Bill Schoder-Ehri, of FWCC Traveling Ministries, will be our visiting resource people.

As we thought about this gathering, we framed queries to help Deborah Humphries interpret the theme:

-How do we deepen and sustain our spirit in unprogrammed meetings?

-How do we share practices among a variety of spiritual backgrounds?

-How can we remain spirit filled within our differences

We know it will be an enlivening rich time together and we hope you can plan to come.  All our meetings, from Friday evening, to meeting for worship on Sunday, will be at the Global Resource Center Building, West 12th Street, (between D and E Streets ) on the Western New Mexico University campus Silver City New Mexico.

The weekend of April 13-15 is the week before the Tour of the Gila bike race, so we encourage Friends to make plans for lodgings early. –Check out  http://www.visitsilvercity.org/stay.html  for a list of Silver City lodgings.  Gila Friends can host some people in our homes.  Please contact our registrar, Tom Vaughan, fevafotos@gmail.com , if you would like lodging in a home.  Tom will be sending out registration materials and the schedule of the weekend soon!

Silver City is about a 7-10 hour drive from Durango, 5-6 hours from Santa Fe, 4-5 hours from Albuquerque, 2 hours from Las Cruces, and 3 hours from El Paso.  Gila Friends will be at the Global Resource Center by 4:00pm for registration for anyone arriving by that time.  We’ll share supper at 6:00 pm, and have a short evening welcome gathering after dinner, about 7:00.  Saturday morning after you have breakfast on your own, we’ll meet at the Global Resource Center at 9:00 to begin our morning’s program.

*Please let us know if you are bringing children.  If families with children  or young friends plan to come, we will work on finding people to plan a children’s program!

Oh when we come into our calling, we become bells, calling to everyone else,
Oh come! Come into your calling!*

*A round by Laurence Cole, taught to Gila Friends who participate in Maria Dahl-Bredine Casler’s Circle of the Sun Community Choir.

Please share this information with your Meeting and isolated Friends!
