Winter Heating in the Meetinghouse

Please help the meeting use energy responsibly by following these guidelines:

  1. Thermostats should not be turned up beyond 68ºF.
  2. When you are finished using a room, you should turn the thermostat back down to 64ºF.
  3. If you want the space to be at a certain temperature when a meeting starts, the event facilitator (or YOU if your event doesn't have an event faciltator) will have to raise the thermostat settings well in advance. The colder it is outside, the longer the lead time. Smaller rooms heat up faster than large rooms.

A heat pump system running efficiently builds temperature increases gradually. For standing weekly events we program the temperature increases. E.g., the meeting room is programed to start heat build up two hours before 10:30am Sunday meeting for worship.

Turning the heat up beyond the set points of 68ºF will not accelerate the rate a room heats up. Instead, the heat will continue to build up slowly to a wasteful level, probably at the point where your meeting is over.

Gathering Room Fireplace

If you are meeting in the Gathering Room, you may use the gas fireplace to warm the room up quickly. Leaving it on for a long time, however, may make that room uncomfortably warm. There is no thermostat on it; it’s either on or off.

To operate the gas fireplace:

  1. Locate the clear plastic box mounted on the wall above the thermostat to the left of the door on the side of the room away from the Worship Room.
  2. To turn on the fireplace, reach a finger in through the hole in the plastic case and briefly press and then release the ON button. Within a few seconds you should see a flame in the fireplace.
  3. To turn off the fireplace, reach in through the hole in the plastic case and briefly press and then release the OFF button. The flame should go out in a few seconds.

If anyone has questions about using the HVAC system they are encouraged to contact George Benz or Bob Reynolds.
